Food Deserts

from DIRTY SOUTH CHRONICLES by Megaciph

about

Food insecurity is a real problem in America with 1 in 5 children going to bed hungry each night
*****************************************************************************************

While there’s no one standard definition to go by, food deserts are generally considered to be places where residents don’t have access to affordable nutritious foods like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains.

Instead of grocery stores or farmers' markets, these areas often have convenience stores and gas stations with limited shelf space available for healthy options — making nutritious foods virtually inaccessible for many families there.

But accessibility can be relative, and proximity to a store is only one factor of many that influences a person's ability to eat healthily. Income and resources (like transportation) can also keep people from being able to access healthy food options.

For example, two neighbors might each live a mile from a grocery store, but one has a car while the other relies on public transit. The neighbor who drives regularly will likely have more options when it comes to groceries than his friend next door.

lyrics

I fill you up at the bar (3x)
When hunger's larger than life I just go bananas
King Kong in a supermarket with real good grammar
Shopping for my fam yeah I'm in Alabama
I got them country manners its good to meet you mama
Here to get some manna some butter and land up
Some lakes around so I could dip chips in or stand up
This hot dog is cutting the mustard you need to ketchup
A fruit salad morning glory muffins cuz this nuts
Our over ain't easy most Fritata with caged eggs
half baked running free paying for pasture raised
My independence keep me grilling in prime filets
I slow roast and don't boast your top choice'll get braised
Some greens in it a toss salad no lean cuisine dinners
I cook I mean business you eat you leave winners
The freshest ingredients don't live in food deserts
Where big chains and subprime markets control entrance
I fill you up at the bar (4x)
This ain't buffet style seven courses plenty choices
Aperitifs and amuse bush the chef has voices
Just for a starter we got water from these dirty faucets
And I was told to recommend but I don't want to force it
Of course it's way too costly to fund the fix for causes
So we feed the fix for fast food that makes us nauseous
Look who's in office this fool wants to off us
I'll take a number 46 a fat fork and a forklift
